Most laptop manufacturers – including some new and unexpected ones – have announced upcoming gaming systems based on Intel’s Ivy Bridge platform and new 28nm mobile graphics cards from Nvidia or AMD. Toshiba is also on track with a new version of its flagship Qosmio gaming laptop that likely replaces the current X775.
The new laptop is called Qosmio X870 and has been given a new design in addition to the hardware updates. It is still a 17.3-inch model with a Full HD 1080p display, but the same high resolution applies to the integrated webcam, which is also equipped with face recognition software.
Under the hood sits an Intel 3rd-gen Core processor and an as of yet unspecified next-gen Nvidia GPU. There is room for two hard drives, which allows for up to 2 TB of storage space. Toshiba will also offer an SSD/HDD hybrid solution. In terms of connectivity, the X870 comes with four USB 3.0 ports and Bluetooth 4.0 support.
Other features are similar to the existing lineup, with an optional Blu-ray drive, SRS Premium 3D Sound and speakers from Harman Kardon. A stereoscopic 3D variant will also be offered–likely based on Nvidia 3D Vision, considering the choice of graphics adapter.
Details on pricing and availability have not been made available yet, but due to the slight Ivy Bridge delay it is unlikely to show up before May.
