Deal: Asus G73SW-XA1 (Sandy Bridge) – $1,399

Asus G73SW (Sandy Bridge)This is the best deal we’ve seen so far on the Sandy Bridge revision of Asus’ Republic of Gamers G73SW. It’s an updated version of the G73 that passed our review with flying colors a while back.

The G73SW is sold in a range of different configurations with some small differences between them. The XA1 variation includes a quad core Intel Core i7-2630QM that runs at 2GHz (Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz), 8GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM (it has four slots that can be filled with up to 16GB), a 750GB 7,200rpm hard drive and one USB 3 port in addition to the three regular USB 2 ports.

Your games are kept running at fluid frame rates thanks to an Nvidia GTX 460M (DX11) with 1.5GB of GDDR5 (the fastest video RAM). This is a high-end GPU based on Nvidia’s Fermi architecture with 192 shaders (or CUDA cores if you insist). It’s clocked at 675MHz (core), 1250MHz (memory) and 1350MHz (shader domain). In short, it runs any game currently on the market in native resolution.

Otherwise, the standard features from the G73 series are all there, including a nice-looking back-lit keyboard and a LED back-lit 17.3-inch panel with Full HD (1920×1080) resolution.  Webcam, multi card reader and Gigabit LAN are also part of this Stealth Bomber package. This is a good deal on a great gaming laptop.
