Dell G7 15
8.5/10 (Expert Score)Meta-review: The overall opinion on the Dell G7 15 is that it offers impressive performance for the price. It comes with the latest hardware and looks great too, although it lacks the standard decorative elements.
Description
The new Dell G7 15 is a refresh over the previous Inspiron laptop and it now packs the latest hardware for 2019. Its predecessor was a pretty big seller and you can expect great performance and value for this version as well. One of the major highlights is that you get a laptop that comes in White and Blue which is unusual for the gaming market where everything is Black and Red. The laptop has been re-branded, so it is not an Inspiron product anymore, it is called the Dell G7 instead.
Dell G7 15 Configurations
The Dell G7 15 comes in a wide range of configurations which is something that people look for. On the CPU side of things, you can choose between the 9th Generation Intel Core i5-9300H and the i7-9750H. Both are great CPUs for gaming but the i7 does have an edge over the little brother when it comes to performance in productivity apps. The i7-9750H has 2 additional cores which can come in handy if you are interested in rendering videos or using other creative applications on your laptop.
The base model of the G7 comes with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM with a frequency of 2666MHz but you can get 16 GB as well. Talking about the graphics, there are a number of options that you can opt for, with a wide range of prices and performance. The base model comes with the entry-level GTX 1650 with 4GB GDDR5, but you can get the 1660 Ti or even Nvidia’s RTX cards. Maxing the configuration out will get you the Nvidia RTX 2080 which supports real-time ray tracing and other Nvidia features such as DLSS.
Dell G7 15 Performance
The performance fo the Dell G7 will depend on the configuration that you have gone with. Especially the graphics card. The model with the RTX 2060 is able to run games like Devil May Cry 5 and The Division 2 pretty easily at 60 FPS with relatively high settings. An important detail is that the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 options are both Max-Q variants.
While the RTX mobile graphics cards are the most powerful ones are the market right now, the Max-Q design options are much slower than the desktop models as the clock speeds are limited in order to keep the temperature in check This is something that you will notice and should keep in mind if you are interested in getting an RTX Max-Q gaming laptop.
A combination of the i7-9750H and the RTX 2060 should be able to run pretty much any game that releases in 2019 at 1080p 60 FPS without any issues.

The Dell G7 15 delivers strong gaming performance for a budget gaming laptop and has a slick design, but the display doesn’t pop.
