New Qosmio X875 Gaming Laptops from Toshiba

Toshiba has just unveiled new laptops in the manufacturer’s high-end Qosmio lineup. The new X875 and X875 3D will come with Intel’s still-unreleased Ivy Bridge processors and a faster graphics card than their predecessors.toshiba qosmio x870By the looks of it the design has also been updated with a somewhat less glossy finish compared to the current Qosmio laptops, as well as a new keyboard/touchpad combo. This design has been dubbed ‘Black Widow’ and features more brushed aluminum than glossy plastics.

The new models will be available in June, and besides the new Intel CPUs, Toshiba has updated the graphics card from the current GTX 560M to the faster GTX 670M (which is the same GPU as the GTX 570M, but faster nonetheless). The 670M comes with 3GB of GDDR5 video RAM compared to 1.5GB in the 560M, although this detail is perhaps less important considering that a faster GTX 675M/580M (also the same GPU) only occasionally uses 2GB.

The 3D version of the X875 uses an Nvidia 3D Vision 2 kit to provide stereoscopic 3D for compatible games and movies. This updated version of 3D Vision also features Lightboost–a method for allowing more light to pass through the glasses, which can otherwise be a problem if the display is not sufficiently bright.

Speaking of which, only the 3D version of the new Qosmio will come with a 1920×1080 display, while the non-3D versions of the laptop will come with a 1600×900 panel. The pricing on the X875 has also been revealed–it will range from $$1,299 for the base model all the way up to $2,499 for an X875 3D with all the bells and whistles.
