To breathe new life into its mobile video card drivers, Nvidia has elected to bestow them with a new name: “Verde”. Several performance improvements are also promised with the latest release.
It took a while, but now both AMD and Nvidia are now shipping drivers that work with laptops without having to resort to modifications. Nvidia apparently thought they should rebrand the package with a name change.
The latest drivers have arrived at version 197.16 and offer better performance in some games, new SLI profiles and also support for 3D-vision on an external monitor. Among the performance enhancements for laptops with an Nvidia GPUs are the following:
Up to 13% better performance in Crysis: Warhead with a single GPU
Up to 13% better performance with a single GPU in HAWX
Up to 30% better performance in Left 4 Dead with a single GPU
SLI Systems:
Up to 15% better performance with HAWX with SLI
Up to 28% better performance in Left 4 Dead with SLI
Up to 30% better performance in Crysis: Warhead with SLI
Verde drivers works with PCs equipped with GeForce 8M graphics cards and newer, similar Quadro graphics cards as well as the Ion family. As usual, the drivers can be found on Nvidia’s download page.
