There’s been rumors going around for weeks now that Dell is working on a new flagship in its Alienware armada. The alleged new laptop would be the 18-inch Alienware M18x, but Dell has consistently denied any and all rumors of such a device.
A couple of things point to the contrary, though, including the fact that there is no longer an SLI option in the M17x R3. Of course, this could just be an adaptation to cope with the heat generated by the powerful Mobility Radeon 6970M, which is an optional upgrade in the R3.
However, the folks at Geek.com have stumbled upon some “evidence” that points to an M18x in the making. It’s a screenshot taken from Dell’s support site that lists a laptop called M18x. How about that. Aside from this “UFO picture” (it’s gone from the support page now,) other rumors include speculation as to whether the M18x – if it exists – will get an option for dual 6970M’s in CrossFireX configuration. That would make it something out of the ordinary.

Sounds interesting, thanks for the update!
Got this from Dell representative today as I was going to order a M17X but decided to wait for the M18
We have had training on the M18x, which means it is likely to come out in the near future, however I do not know the exact date. There are a few differences in the laptops—weight and the 17x allows 3d as the 18x does not. I left you a voicemail.
