Asus Republic of Gamers G74SX Announced: 3D, GTX 560M, Sandy Bridge

G74sxAfter a bumpy start of 2011, it is starting to look like this year will be a great one for gaming laptops. For example, Asus is rolling out new iterations of their Republic of Gamers laptops at the CeBIT trade show in Hannover, Germany.

The G7x series is getting upgraded with an Nvidia 3D Vision kit, which starting to become a de facto standard for 3D in high-end laptops.Besides the 3D kit and a compatible 120Hz Full HD display, the G74SX also gets a brand new Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M graphics card – successor and similar in many ways to the GTX 460M, but with higher clocks across the board. Shaders, GPU core and memory all run at higher frequencies in the 560M compared to the 460M.

The RoG G74SX will also be equipped with Intel’s 2nd generation Core i7 and i5 CPUs (Sandy Bridge,) which improves on the existing Turbo Boost feature (automatic overclocking) among other things. Otherwise the chassis looks about the same as the predecessor; a stealth bomber-inspired design with large exhausts in the rear that keep the noise level to a minimum (one of the things we liked on the previous model). You can also hook it up to a 3D-capable HDTV via the included HDMI 1.4 port.

Another interesting release from Asus is a 3D glasses-free verison of its 15-inch Republic of Gamers laptop – something along the lines of a gigantic Nintendo 3DS. Apparently, the new G53 laptop has a “deadzone-free” 3D display that is capable of producing 3D images from any angle without the need for 3D glasses.

No details about pricing or availability are available yet. Read more on Asus’ CeBIT site.
