Nvidia GeForce 3D Vision Updated

Nvidia 3D Vision KitNvidia’s 3D Vision initiative has been quite successful, partly because it has no real competitors, but also because it’s a good product that works seamlessly with most games. It is worth noting that it is not a plug-and-play product; besides a compatible GeForce video card, you also need a monitor capable of twice the standard refresh rate, i.e., 120Hz.

So unless you happen to be a handy DIYer with access to a 120Hz panel that fits in your laptop, there is no way to upgrade your laptop to 3D Vision capability. But for owners of existing 3D Vision-equipped laptops such as the 3D versions of Dell’s XPS 17 and Alienware M17x R3, the latest update might be of interest.

With the latest update, Nvidia is making their 3D kits both better and more affordable. Battery life in the goggles has been improved by 50% – from 40 to 60 hours, and the price has been cut by $50 to $149. The package also comes with a new type of transmitter that is backward compatible with the older type. An extra pair of glasses have also become less expensive and is now down to $119.
