The rumors about an upcoming Alienware M18x are nothing new. But the Dell rumor mill has been busy lately; besides the gargantuan desktop replacement there’s also rumor of a svelte 14-inch Alienware M14x in the making, plus an update to the existing 11.6-inch M11x.
The last one is the least controversial, as there is already a Core i5/i7 version of the M11x (R2). Updating it to the latest Intel platform makes perfect sense.
What doesn’t make sense is that some are contemplating whether it will retain its dedicated graphics card. Of course it will – otherwise you could just as well get a 12-inch ThinkPad with integrated graphics. The big question is whether Dell opts for Nvidia or AMD in the latest revision.
A somewhat more controversial rumor – derived from a Chinese forum – is that of an Alienware M14x that is about to be launched at around the same time as the M11x R3 and the M18x. In that case, it will allegedly be equipped with either an Nvidia GT 555M or a Radeon HD 6770M. Exciting times ahead.
