Samsung Inadvertently Reveals Series 7 Gamer Specs

With Razer’s recent marketing shenanigans in mind, the thought comes to mind as to how inadvertent this kind of mistakes really are. In any case, Samsung’s slip-up with detailing the specs of its upcoming Ivy Bridge -based Series 7 gaming laptop went viral real fast, giving the company tons of free publicity in the process. That’s all well and good, because the Series 7 Gamer looks very promising. Most blogs that have published the story have used a picture of the Series 7 Chronos, though, which is not at all similar to the gaming version (although the Chronos also looks like a very nice piece of gadgetry).

Unlike the 14- and 15-inch Chronos, the Series 7 Gamer is a beefy 17-inch laptop with a dedicated number pad and all the LED lights that are apparently mandatory on gaming laptops these days. But all of this obviously misses the point of the story, which involved some new details about the laptop on Samsung’s website:

We recently talked about the machine and what was known so far about it. At first it was going to ship with a Radeon HD 6970M graphics card from AMD, but according to the latest information it is likely going to be equipped with a considerably more interesting Nvidia GeForce GTX 675M with 2GB of GDDR5. This GPU is still unannounced but should belong in Nvidia’s next-gen, 28nm lineup and therefore offer a lot more performance than the HD 6970M.

That GPU will be accompanied by a brand new Intel Core i7-3610QM–an entry-level quad core CPU from the Ivy Bridge family, which is due in April. It runs at a 2.3 GHz base clock frequency and reaches 3.3 GHz with Turbo Boost. Other parts of the specs that have been mentioned include dual 1TB hard drives, 16GB of RAM, a slot-loading Blu-ray player and Intel WiDi support.
