The Taiwanese manufacturer Acer was founded in 1976 but was then known as Multitech. At the time, the company was a distributor of spare parts in electronic equipment and a microprocessor consultancy. In the 1980s, Acer’s subsidiary in Toronto started producing PC peripherals and consumer electronics.
It wasn’t until 1997 that Acer went into the notebook business via its acquisition of Texas Instruments and its TravelMate product line, which is still in production.
Gaming devices have not been Acer’s main focus for much of the past decades. But in the past few years, the company has taken an interest in gaming laptops. The Acer Nitro series occupies the entry level, while the Predator Helios and Triton lineups use only high-end components.
